 Day 47: Follow Me

Picture
Read John 21:15-25
Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
John 21:16 (NIV)

With full bellies, Jesus asked a question we all need to ask. Jesus said to Peter, “Do you truly love me more than these?” It is not a competition to see who loves God the most, but do you love God more than anything in your life? Jesus asked the question three times and Peter hurt by the third inquiry acknowledges Jesus knows all things. Even as Peter is still asking questions, Jesus reminds Peter that it is God’s leading of his own life that Peter can trust. Do we trust God with our lives? Jesus trusted all the way to the cross.

John’s purpose for writing his Gospel was to show that Jesus was the Son of God. The evidence has been stated by John and now we all must decide if we believe. John spent several years as an exile on the Island of Patmos and stood form in his conviction Jesus was the Son of God. If you feel exiled, sometimes the first step is to enter the Son of God story and look at the evidence. The hard part often is the choice. I pray this devotional has impacted your life and caused you to say “I believe Jesus
is the Son of God.” The next test is our willingness to serve.

Thank you for all who served to write these devotional thoughts inspired because we believe Jesus is the Son of God!

Prayer Focus: Thank God for the gift of Jesus, the Son of God!

The Garden Tomb - Modern Day

Thank you to everyone that has participated in this Lent Devotional!

On a handful of our daily devotionals, I was able to share images of "Modern Day Israel." Today, I share a few more - specifically of the possible location of the Garden Tomb of Jesus. Many of these images were shared with me by a friend who had traveled to Israel the summer before the pandemic. I have loved looking at the beautiful images and seeing the locations of places I have read about over and over in the Scriptures. Today, I end the devotional with my friend Kathy's response to visiting the Garden Tomb. Thank you again for joining us on this journey and Happy Easter!

There is more than one possible site for the crucifixion and burial of Christ. The Garden Tomb was by far the most meaningful and realistic. Golgatha -  the place of the skull is still visible on the rock. Crucifixions were held in public places not on hills as depicted in paintings. A probable spot for the crucifixion is where the bus station is now.

While sitting in the garden by the tomb it was easy to picture Jesus standing by the tree when Mary thought he was the gardener after He conquered the grave. We had a very powerful communion service in the garden. "Because He lives I can face tomorrow, because He lives all fear is gone."

Did you miss a day?
