Day 22: Abundant Life
I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10b (NASB)
In this passage Jesus the Good Shepherd tells us that He is the way to eternal life, and that He will give His life to protect us from those who would seek to destroy us and our forever future with Him.
And, in verse 10, He tells us He’s come to give us a life that is “abundant,” or as other translations describe it, that is “full” (NIV) and “rich and satisfying” (NLT).
What would an abundant life look like for you in 2021?
For most of us the pandemic would be gone and we’d be back with family and friends, shaking hands and hugging, going out to dinner or a movie, gathering together in church for worship. For some an abundant life might also include things the world calls “rich and satisfying” – a better job, a new house, a dream vacation, a big tax refund.
Jesus offers us a different, better kind of abundant life; it’s the one we find in Psalm 23, where David writes, “The Lord is my shepherd, I have all that I need.”
An abundant life isn’t about stuff; it’s about our Shepherd and Savior. It’s about having a relationship with Him, and the joy, love, peace and hope that come from knowing that He is with us every minute of our life, caring for us in the best as well as the toughest of times, promising us an eternal home with Him.
Do you want that kind of abundant life? It begins the moment we declare the Good Shepherd as our Lord and Savior. If you’ve never done that, do it today!
