 Day 2: Pointing the Way

Read John 1:19-34
You know what really irritates me? I really dislike those times when I have to go someplace and the directions are not clear. For example, by the time you read this, hopefully I will have had my second Covid shot. I know the date when I am supposed to go to the Modesto Center Plaza and I know the time when they are supposed to be open, giving shots. But when I went to get my first shot at the County Public Health building, there were no signs, and no directions. This meant even though I got to the building a couple of hours before they were scheduled to open, there was a very, very long line of people. I got into the line hoping it was where I was supposed to be but imagine how irritated we would have been if after waiting all that time we discovered we were in the wrong line.

You know what I love about our Scripture reading for today? I love all of the signs God employs to make sure we know that Jesus is the Messiah, the one and only Savior.

We start with John the Baptist. John was baptizing people which was new because at that time Jewish people were not baptized, only Gentiles that wanted to become Jewish were baptized.  So, seeing this new thing being done, people asked, “John, are you the Messiah?” Is this the correct line we are supposed to be standing in.

And I love John because he told them the truth, “No, I am not the Messiah.” This is not the line you are looking for.

But John didn’t stop there. He pointed those people to the correct “line,” to Jesus.  Pointing to Jesus John said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

See, God wanted to make sure you were in the right line so Scripture is clear. Jesus is the one you are looking for.

Prayer Focus: Prayer for those in our community impacted by Covid-19. Prayer for healing.
