Day 25: A Purpose Fulfilled
When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” John 11:43 (NIV)
After giving thanks to the Father for hearing his request, Jesus uttered the command, “Lazarus come out,” and Lazarus was resurrected. Many who were there believed in Jesus, and God’s plan to glorify the Son was fulfilled.
Wait, scripture says that many, not all who were there at Lazarus’ resurrection, believed.
Some, completely oblivious to the miraculous nature of what they had just witnessed, went straight to the Pharisees to inform them of what Jesus had done.
The Pharisees, aware that Jesus was performing many miraculous signs, plotted Jesus’ death.
How could this be? How could they or anyone faced with legitimate, miraculous evidence, still turn away?
Sin, then and now, can manifest itself in hardened hearts, jealousy, self-righteousness, selfishness and denial . . .
“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert.” Hebrews 3:7-8
“…I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2
Salvation through Jesus requires an answer from each of us, today. A tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
