Day 3: Follow Me
Jesus used simple words – words like “Come and see” and “Follow me” – to not only change the lives of everyday people but to change the course of history.
And He uses those same simple words today to call us to be His disciples in a world that still desperately needs the help, healing and hope that can be found only in Him.
Those rough-around-the-edges fishermen who dropped their nets and answered that first call had no idea what lay ahead. But they stepped forward in faith to follow this man who John the Baptist heralded as the long-awaited Messiah.
They would soon discover that there’s a huge difference between being an admirer of Jesus and being a true disciple – just as today there’s a huge difference between being a “Christian” and being a true “follower of Christ.”
In today’s culture, saying “I’m a Christian” can mean all sorts of things, from “I was raised in a Christian home” to “I’m not a (fill in the blank) so I’m a Christian” and even to “I go to church regularly.”
But answering Jesus’ call to “Follow me” means making a complete commitment to living for and with and in Him, declaring Him your Lord and Savior, surrendering your will to His, choosing His ways over the ways of the world, trusting and obeying Him no matter what.
Living as a “follower of Christ” isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. Will you say “yes” when Jesus says “Follow me” to you?
