Day 35: Never Alone
"Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you." John 16:7b (NIV)
If you’re anything like me, I often find security in familiar routines. Those activities which are consistent and stable bring me comfort. When faced with unexpected change, my world can sometimes spiral downward into worry and oppressive anxiety. I want to know what’s around the next corner; can I count on Jesus for help?
Jesus, knowing our propensity towards fear, prepares his disciples for his absence. Don’t worry about it Jesus tells them, I’m going to send you a “Counselor,” the Holy Spirit of truth, and this is a good thing. He will tell you what is to come. He will give glory to me (Jesus) and give you what is mine. And you should know that all that belongs to the Father is at my disposal. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit communicate as one. I’m not sure we can fully comprehend the power that is wrapped in these words, but they can be trusted to bring about good for those who belong to the Son.
What a precious gift the Son has given his children.
