Advent Devotional 2021

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

If you have ever attended a family camp at Redwood Christian Park, you may have had the opportunity to listen to Dr. Sandy Richter teach. Dr. Richter is an Old Testament professor who is currently at Westmont as The Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies. Through her intensive studies of scripture, research of the cultures, & her archaeological trips to Israel, she has an ability to process all that information to help her students have a much deeper understanding and love of the Old Testament.
One thing that has stuck with me in her teachings, is that when we look at the whole Bible - the Old & New Testament - we are looking at a Rescue Plan by God for humanity (check out her book the Epic of Eden for more on this).
When we study the Old Testament, we see the cycle of God’s people turning away from him, repenting, then turning away from Him again. In God’s perfect timing, we are introduced to His Rescue Plan in the Gospels in the New Testament. This Advent season, we will study the Gospel of Luke & this Rescue Plan together. Join us we read about Jesus birth, His ministry, His death and the greatest day in history - His resurrection.
I pray we can each be reminded of why we celebrate the birth of Jesus. If you have put your faith in Jesus, he has redeemed you. If you do not yet know him, today you can make that decision by talking to God and saying:
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.
If you prayed that prayer for the first time, let Pastor Tim know or another trusted Christian friend.
Thank you for joining us on this devotional. Set your Bible App reminder or put your Bible beside your bed, whatever helps you the best - let’s study God’s word together!
