“The Pre-Pentecost teaching of Apollos was corrected by Priscilla and Aquila (18:25-26). Apollos was from Alexandria, an important seaport and educational center on the western edge of Egypt’s Nile delta. The city had a large Jewish population that had been strongly influenced by Greek culture and philosophy. The power of Apollo’s witness was based on his use of the Old Testament Scriptures to prove that Jesus was the Messiah (cf. Luke 24:27, 44-47).”
