Pastor Sam Vorn Cambodian Pastor
I was born on October 19, 1944 in Kompong Cham Province, Cambodia. I grew up in a Buddhist family and for the first 30 years of my life I was a Buddhist.
In 1975 the Cambodian communists took over my country and in 1978 I was rounded up with 22 others. The communists beat and tried to kill me and during that time I remembered what a Cambodian Christian had told me about Jesus and I promised God that if He saved me I would use my life to follow Him.
The 22 others who were with me that day were killed, but the communists let me go and I remembered my promise to God.
Solinna and I met shortly after that and we fled to Thailand. We went to a Christian church in the refugee camp. During the day I studied the Bible with the missionaries and at night I taught the lessons to my people. We stayed in Thailand for two years in the refugee camp and our daughter Sarah was born there. We then stayed seven months in the Philippines before we came to the United States where our daughter Rebecca was born.
In December of 1985 I came to Centenary to begin a Cambodian Church. In 1987 I graduated from San Jose Bible College with a Bachelors of Theology degree. In 1988 I was ordained as a minister of Christ and later, in June of 2001, I was recognized as an Elder in the United Methodist Church.
It has been my privilege to serve God here at Centenary for almost 20 years.
We have accomplished much but there is still much to be done to reach the lost in our community.
"...I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest." John 4:35
